Record Breaker:
Charles the #1 Jock!
By Jasmine Henderson
With only 100 more meters to go, Charles Jock zoomed past two runners bringing home the gold. His time is the fifth fastest in section history.
Jock finished first in the 800 meter sprint in the State Championship, also breaking a school record that has been standing for 51 years. He set the new record at 1 minute, 51. 64 seconds beating the 1 minute, 52.14 record.
Charles Jock says, “ It felt great winning state. I’ve been working hard for it all year.” He adds, “Winning state takes a lot of motivation and hard work. It’s 80 percent mental and 20 percent physical. It’s a competition of will: whoever wants it the most gets it.”
“I’m proud of Jock. I rode him like a mule and he responded, I didn’t let up and I won’t let up until I release him to his college coaches, and even then I won’t let up,” says Coach Emmitt Dodd. “ The track team will miss him, I miss him already but I think he’s outgrown Mission bay. This is what he has been preparing for his whole high school career, and I know he’s ready,” adds Coach Dodd.
Charles shows his speed both on the track and the soccer field.
