Physical Education
Currently, at Mission Bay High School there is being
taught Physical Education. This is a class unlike any other at
the school. This class consists of performing many physical challenges
such as, running, playing soccer, baseball, Football, Tennis, Volleyball,
and even weights. In this class, students get graded according
to their physical inputs or abilities in sports.
Physical Education Course No. 5711 for Grades 9,10,11,12
has no prerequisites and it is a program which emphasizes and supports
the following 3 major goals: movement skills and movement knowledge,
self-image and personal development, Social development. The goals
are met through the selection of the following activities: Racquet
sports (badminton, racquetball, tennis), Team sports (basketball,
flag football, softball, soccer, field hockey), Weight training,
and conditioning, step-aerobics, Dance and movement activities,
recreational sports and games (Frisbee, golf, over-the-line, team
building games, etc.)
Physical Education- Adaptive P.E. Course No.5710 for
grades 9,10,11,12 only require a doctor’s recommendation
and Individual Educational Plan (IEP) team recommendation. The
program consists of activities designed for students who are not
able to safely or successfully participate in regular activity
classes. This course is designed for students who are mentally
as well as physically disabled.
Physical Education-Interscholastic Athletics Course
No. 5712 for grades 9,10,11,12 it's pre-requisites are approval
of coach, a 2.0 or above grade point average in scholarship and
citizenship and passing grades in at least 4 subjects. Physician
and parent approval (insurance or Insurance waiver required.) The
course is a competitive sports program with other schools offers
the following sports, for fall season they are: Cross-country,
field hockey, football, tennis (girls), volleyball (girls) water
polo (boys). For the winter season, there are basketball, soccer,
wrestling, water polo (girls).For last, there is the spring season,
where Badminton (co-ed), baseball, golf, softball, tennis (boys),
track, volleyball (boys) are being offered.
Physical Education-NCAA- College Athletics
If you intend to participate in division I or II athletics
as a freshman, you must register and be certified by the "NCAA
Initial Eligibility Clearing House." Students are entering
as new freshmen (those never enrolled full time at any college),
must satisfy the requirement of NCAA by law 14.3 commonly known
as Proposition 48 to be eligible to participate in NCAA sports
in college. Proposition 48 requires: Graduation form high school,
a grade point average of 2.00 or above in a core-curriculum of
13 academic courses consisting of: four years of English (Div I),
three years of English (Div II), two years of mathematics, two
years of social science, two years of natural or physical science
(with at least one laboratory class), one year of additional course
work in either English, math or science. Also there are two years
of additional academic course work in any of the above areas or
foreign language, computer science, philosophy or non-doctrinal
religion and a minimum total score of 820 on the SAT I (verbal
+ math sections) or a sum of at least 68 on the ACT. (See index
Scale in the counseling office for test score/GPA combination.)
These are the various courses student can take in
order to fulfill one of the A-G requirements for high school graduation.
In order to graduate from high school students must complete two
years of physical education.
