World Languages
Grades 9-12 Stuents will develop skills in listening,
speaking, reading and writing in every course. Students will be exposed to
an in-depth analysis of cultural and historical background of every language.
At all levels, students receive extesive practice in spelling, vocabulary,
grammar, and comprehension.
French
Students who enroll in this course should already
have a good command of French grammar and vocabulary and have competence in
listening, reading speaking and writing. The objective of this course is the
development of the ability to understand spoken French in various context;
a French vocabulary sufficiently ample for reading without dependence on a
dictionary; and the ability to express oneself in both written and spoken
French.
Japanese 1,6
When you take the Japanese language, it will take four years to complete. During the first year, you will learn hiragana. The second year is katakana. After having learned both the katakana and hiragana syllabaries, you will learn Kanji (Chinese Characters). During all four years, the emphasis is on reading, writing. speaking and listening skills. Even though not everyone completes all four years of the language, it is still a very educational and rewarding experience.
Spanish 1-10
Level 1-2 Students are esposed to many vocabulary
projects, which may include puppet shows, oral recitals, and practice of grammar
writing through penpal letters and cultural reports. At levels 3-4 and 5-6,
students show conversational ability through language skits, puppetry exhibits,
and oral reports on hestory, geography, or art themes.
Spanish for Spanish Speakers
Native speakers will be taught how to write, speak
and comprehend formal Spanish in order tro become bilingual and bicultural.
This class will give the new students the self -confidence and motivation
to succeed in all high-school subjects. It will help students build the strong
academic foundation necessary to attendthe university
