Counseling and Guidance
Mission Statement
"The Mission Bay High School Counseling program will provide
educational planning and social/emotional support for all students
to reach their immediate and long range goals"
The Mission Bay High School Counseling and Guidance department
is going through a transition. We are moving toward a new model of
providing services called Comprehensive or Results Based Guidance.
It is model designed to service all students at Mission Bay in a
developmentally appropriate manner using large group, small group
and individual guidance lessons to meet the needs of all students.
We will be spending a large portion of our time in classrooms providing
guidance lessons with specific outcomes in mind. Counselors will
be teaching the Life Skills lessons to all 9th grade students, lessons
on graduation and college requirements at all grade levels, lessons
on drugs and alcohol and decision making at appropriate grades, as
well as several other lessons on a variety of topics throughout the
year. We will still be available for individual conferences and will
continue to manage an alpha caseload.
In addition to the general guidance lessons that all students
receive, we will be conducting groups and teaching targeted lessons
to particularly at risk or needy populations. It is our goal to meet
the needs of all students at Mission Bay High School in all three
counseling domains: Academic, Career, and Personal Social. Please
feel free to contact me, Gretchen Rhoads, Head Counselor, at 858-273-1313
ext. 109 if you have any questions.
We are using the Counselor of the day model. A counselor
is assigned each day to handle any walk in concerns, emergencies,
or daily responsibilities. If you wish to see a particular counselor,
please make an apponitnment. If you walk in, you will be helped,
but it will be by the counselor of the day. We encourage parents
to come in and meet with counselors, however, making an appointment
is the most efficient way in wich to see one of us. Thank you for
your cooperation.
